Integration with photo editing tools on iOS (i.e.Won't delete photos in the cloud if something happens to the local version of those photos.Granted, I haven't dug into pClouds prices.ĭoes pCloud satisfy any of the other things I was looking for? Do you know if any other online cloud provider does this? I was looking at iDrive because the prices are so competitive. If my backup software can interact with the files when they're in that state and back them up from local pCloud folders on desktop -> an external drive, this would be perfect. Ok, now this is a huge selling point for me. I'd want something that does auto backup from an iPhone to various pCloud folders though (as opposed to laptop -> pCloud) - is this possible? It isn't a dealbreaker. Yes, it does - which folders to back up and where to back them up. Else, of course you could do their monthly or annual plans - though of course as with any company, this could be more in the long run than their one-off, Lifetime offer.ĭoes your backup software let you pick what folders you want to backup?.The promos take 75% off, and it's usually for their bigger, 2 TB package – the 2 TB becomes $245, and you only pay it once ( basically, pays for itself after just ~2.5 years, then after that it's like it's free). If you do end up going with pCloud and you really like it, as a heads up, they tend to run promos on their Lifetime packages about 2-3x per year ( usually around Christmas, New Year's, 4th of July. Then just tell it to backup that main folder (and since everything else would be found inside this main folder, it would result in everything getting backed up).If you want it to just backup your entire pCloud account, if your backup software doesn't let you just select the P: drive itself, then you could just put everything in your pCloud inside one main folder. You could repeat this for as many folders as you'd like. (just click your "P:" drive, then you should see the "Photos" folder there). In your backup software, you then simply guide it to that Photos folder. In pCloud you create a folder called "Photos".So, I'd think you could just tell your backup software to simply backup your pCloud folders (that your computer should show as selectable options, since your computer thinks those folders & files are all actually there). But because they're never actually ON your computer, they don't take up space on your computer. In the background what it's really doing is essentially streaming everything though from their servers. Basically, it makes your computer think that all of your files with them, are actually present on your computer. PCloud does this "magical" thing where it creates what's known as a virtual drive. If so, you could just use pCloud and then tell your backup software to backup the pCloud folders. ![]() Optional features that would be nice to have but aren't necessary would be file tagging, auto backup of photos from your phone to specific folders in the cloud, and integration with photo editing tools on iOS.ĭoes your backup software let you pick what folders you want to backup? ( I would assume so, but asking just in case) ![]() Won't delete photos in the cloud if something happens to the local version of those photos (I'm looking for a backup service more than a sync service).Ability for multiple family members to share a single account. The only workaround I can think of is a cloud storage solution that makes files locally available only while someone/something is trying to interact with them and them offloads them back to the cloud immediately after. The obvious issue is that doing this would require having the photos available locally on a computer, which would take up a huge amount of space quickly. The backup software I currently use is something called Bvckup2. I would like to keep a secondary local backup that's automated, though. I don't want to self host - I like the idea of having the photos kept in an actual, professionally managed data center I don't have to manage. Essentially, what I want to do is be able to back up the contents of the cloud to a local external drive. The one feature I'm really looking for, though, is something that's compatible with backup software. I'm looking for an online cloud storage solution meant to store family photos. ![]()
